About White Elephant Safari Lodge

White Elephant based in the Pongola Game Reserve adjacent to Lake Jozini is the only lodge in South Africa to offer Kariba-like, water based safari activities (motorized and canoeing) as well as the traditional land based activities. This sets us apart from other safari destinations.

We are passionate about conservation and offer a superb Black Rhino conservation experience (with a chance of viewing Black Rhino on foot) and offer guests an insight to what the Black Rhino Range Expansion Project entails. We also have a fascinating Elephant research activity, which offers an educational, interactive and visual experience and an opportunity to spend time with our elephant researcher, Heike at our research center.

We also offer the conventional activities such as game drives, educational bush walks, a visit to the lodge hide overlooking a waterhole and incredible boat cruises on Lake Jozini. These varied activities as well as the chance of catching tiger fish and superb bird watching possibilities, make us a truly unique South African Safari experience.

UmKhaya is a private self-contained thatched cottage, with 2 bedrooms (sleeping a maximum of 4 adults and 2 kids) 2 bathrooms, open plan kitchen & lounge, and large veranda. Outside you will find a braai, fire pit and a wood fired hot tub to enjoy.
Bush CampPrivate Villa
Bush Camp - Self-catered private camp for exclusive hire This unique self catering lodge provides for a relaxed, private, bush experience. Thatched en-suite chalets are generously spacious with quality linen and overhead fans. Open plan kitchen, dining room, bar and swimming pool with spectacular views ensure a “close to nature” relaxed ambience. White Elephant Bush Camp is an escape from the busy, hurried world for families and friends. Bush Camp can accommodate up to 16 guests as follows: Chalet 1-4: twin beds, en-suite shower. Chalet 5-6: twin beds, en-suite shower and bath. Chalet 7: family unit, en-suite shower. Twin beds in main room, 2 x single beds in adjoining room. Bush Camp is the ideal camp for guided tours that are more budget consious and where the tour guide is able to prepare the meals for the guests. A dedicated ranger is available during the stay at Bush Camp
Umkhaya Cottage
Private self-containing thatched cottage, with 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, open plan kitchen & lounge, large verandah. Within walking distance of Bush Camp The Cottage can be booked on its own or as part of Bush Camp if group is >16 guests. Ideal for small families, child friendly.

"Located at the foot of the Lebombo mountains lies White Elephant, the only lodge in South Africa to offer Kariba-like water-based safari activities, including tiger shing and boat cruises, thanks to its location near Lake Jozini in the Pongola Game Reserve Wilderness. Traditional land-based safari activities such as game drives and bush walks are also offered and visitors can also opt to partake in tracking black rhino or researching elephant. White Elephant Safari Lodge has a deep verandah with sweeping views and eight luxurious safari tents, each with a romantic en-suite bathroom, an outdoor shower and private verandah.
