Inspired by nature’s impressive termite mounds, Garonga Safari Camp, located in the 22 000 hectare Makalali Conservancy in Limpopo, has been designed to reflect the textures of the earth with rough plastered walls and natural canvas. Garonga’s holistic philosophy is to offer a safari for the soul, finding inspiration in nature with time to reflect.
Garonga offers a fantastic Big Five game experience, with elephant, rhino, lion, leopard, cheetah, hyena, hippo and an abundance of antelope and more. Professional guides introduce the wonders of Africa’s wildlife on game drives and wilderness walks for more intimate, enhanced encounters. For a truly unique experience, a sleep-out excursion on a secluded deck over the veldt is magical, with moonlit vistas, an explosion of stars, and the lion’s roar. Or simply take time out with an outdoor bush bath, or aromatherapy and reflexology sessions in the sala.
Six luxury tents are carefully set amongst ebony trees on the banks of a dry riverbed, each with a private wood deck, hammock and beautiful views. Be indulged with little luxuries and thoughtful touches in the bedrooms and bathrooms, with romantically draped beds and indoor and outdoor showers. Bernardo Smith and his team offer generous hospitality, and the main lodge is a convivial meeting place. Summer months allow for bush picnics, while dinners are always an occasion with varied venues, where sublime food indulges the senses.
Little Garonga is ideal for private groups, families or couples, with just three thatched, air-conditioned luxury suites, and a dedicated guide, vehicle, host and staff. An intimate affair with the suites around central indoor and outdoor lounges and swimming pool. Each with its own platform deck and hammock, mini bar, indoor bath and shower, as well as an al fresco shower. (For Little Garonga Camp see
