About The Hatchery

The Hatchery is a deserted old prawn farm on a river mouth and coastal reserve on the KZN North Coast. A unique blend of comfort and rustic old cool in an idyllic setting. The facility has been "lightly"renovated - the end result is a unique blend of comfort and rustic cool. The hatchery offers accommodation and a list of activities to keep you entertained.

We are self catering; bringing your own supplies in is recommended. Low slung cars can scrape on the road in so leave the Beemer at home for this one or take your time on the way in. We stepped out and put in linen, bedding, towels, and even air-cons.

The communal kitchens and dining table is kitted for any culinary adventure you may want to try your hand at, and a cool place to hang out in inclement weather. There are plenty of spots which show different aspects of the bush and beach environment right at the Hatchery.

The butlers are available to assist, advice and make your stay as comfortable as possible.

The Nursery 3 sleeper
Double bedroom with queen bed and 1 day sleeper (total of 3 guests) - next to the kitchen. Unit has a small bar fridge and kettle.
Red Herring 4 sleeper
Red Herring is a 4 sleeper - double bedroom with queen bed and 2 day sleepers. Unit has a fridge and kettle.
Flying Prawn 4 sleeper
Flying Prawn is a 4 sleeper - it has a double bedroom with queen bed and 2 day sleepers. Unit has a fridge and kettle
Prawn Feed 4 sleeper
Prawn Feed is a 4 sleeper - it has a double bedroom with queen bed and 2 day sleeper - unit is slightly bigger than Red Herring and Flying Prawn so you get bragging rights. Unit has a fridge and kettle
The Kelp 6 sleeper
The Kelp is a 6 sleeper - it has a double bedroom with queen bed and 4 single beds. Unit has a fridge and kettle. This unit is central and next to the action (Gin tank - splash pool). This unit also has the option for DSTV - you need to bring your own TV and decoder.
Tap Room 3 sleeper
Tap Room is a 3 sleeper - single bedroom with queen bed and 1 single. Unit has a fridge and kettle. Unit is detached from the rest and has awesome views of the lagoon.
Pumphouse 2 sleeper
Pumphouse is a 2 sleeper - it is a single bedroom with queen bed or 2 singles. This unit is joined with Broodstock back to back so don't spat with your neighbors. The unit is next to the gin tank and has awesome views of the lagoon.
Broodstock 2 sleeper
Broodstock is a 2 sleeper - it is a single bedroom with queen bed or 2 singles. This unit is joined with Pumphouse back to back. Unit has a fridge and kettle
Forest 5 sleeper
Forest is a 5 sleeper - it has 2.5 rooms. The one room has a queen bed and room has a door. The other bedroom has a queen bed and the half room has a single bed. This unit is more suitable for a family due to 2 rooms that is not that private. This unit also has a fridge and kettle, small verandah with table and chairs.
Chapel 2 sleeper
Chapel is a 2 sleeper - single, small bedroom with over sized bed. This unit has a private outside ablution facility or alternatively a shared outside ablution facility. This unit has a small bar fridge and kettle
Penny's Cottage 8 sleeper
Penny's Cottage is an 8 sleeper - this unit has its own little kitchen as well. One room has queen bed with 2 singles, en-suite bathroom with shower and bathtub The other room has a queen bed, en-suite bathroom with shower. The last room is an open plan bedroom with 2 singles. Penny's is situated at the back of the Hatchery and is more private.
