About The Retreat at Groenfontein
The Retreat is a Victorian farmhouse set in 560ha of the beautiful Groenfontein Valley Conservancy, bordering on the 129000ha Swartberg Nature Reserve. The house, filled with yellow-wood and mellow Oregon pine, has a lounge and dining room - each with its own ceramic fireplace to keep them cosy on chilly winter evenings - leading onto a wide verandah, overlooking the sweeping gardens and majestic Swartberg mountains. There are two suites and two garden rooms in two garden annexes with breathtaking views of the mountains from their private terraces, and 4 comfortable en-suite bedrooms in the main house, with French doors opening onto a patio.
The rate includes a delicious dinner and full farm breakfast.
We enjoy treating guests to true Klein-Karoo hospitality with hearty breakfasts and traditional home-cooked dinners served with a continental touch. Vegetarians are welcome and we cater for problem diets. We have a full liquor licence and carry a selection of wines from the region.
Enjoy peaceful walks along the charming lanes of the Groenfontein valley, climb into the foothills of the Swartberg, or simply relax by the pool and let the peace and silence soak into your soul. German, French, Swedish and Italian spoken. Children and pets welcome.

Located in a converted creamery adjacent to the main thouse this room has a king-size bed or twin beds, an en-suite bathroom with a shower, and a lounge area with a sofa bed and a fireplace. The room opens onto a patio.
Garden Room (Weaving Shed 7) Larger
Located in a converted weaving shed, this room has a king-size bed or twin beds, a lounge area with a fireplace, and an en-suite bathroom with a Victorian bath and shower combo. There is a small alcove room with a single bed. The room has a verandah.
Standard Queen Room
Located in the main house this room contains a queen-size bed, and an en-suite bathroom with a shower. The room opens onto a patio with outdoor furniture.
