Shik Shack Backpackers is an eco-conscious, sustainable retreat in rural South Africa, designed for responsible travelers who care about their impact. Built with eco-friendly materials and a focus on minimizing environmental footprint, we offer an authentic experience in the heart of the vibrant Tsonga community. More than just a place to stay, Shik Shack Backpackers is an opportunity to engage in responsible tourism while supporting local initiatives. As a social enterprise, we proudly support the Nourish Foundation and give back to the local community by employing 11 staff members and contributing to impactful projects.

Traditional Huts
Our 4 Rondavels, traditional African huts, are equipped with two separate beds, bedside lamps, confortable bedding, fresh towels, shelf for clothing, and a fan for those hot African nights.

Safari Tents
Our 3 safari tents feature two beds (Twin or Double) made from recycled pallets with confortable bedding, fresh towels, fan and storage. A shaded veranda to relax.

Teepee
Our 2 Teepees, are made from mud bricks and a repurposed old windy house. Include 2 single beds (twin or double), confortable bedding, fresh towels, mosquito nets, fans and storage.

Our Family Tent is an extra-large safari tent with a king bed, bunk bed, couch, and two nightstands, perfect for families with young children. It offers all the comfort you need. Shared bathroom and kitchen facilities are available for your convenience.
