About Farm Cottages at Au d'Brandy Route
Au d' Brandy Route is located on Arbeid Adelt farm. This farm was part of the original farm De Doorns, one of the first four farms to be in the Hex River Valley in the year 1731. The old carriageway in those days always followed the easiest route near water for the sake of the animals. Many travellers and adventurers travelling between Cape of Good Hope and the Karoo visited this farm to buy cases of brandy, as well as to experience the hospitality of the farm. The Victorian manor house on the estate, built-in 1897, is the only remaining so-called "Brandy Palace" of the Hex River Valley.
