About Outeniqua Trout Lodge
We pride ourselves in being green; providing our own electricity and water from natural resources, as well as effluent treatment, making us independent from the national power grid and other municipal services. Our main farming activity is the growing of rainbow and brown trout and organic pecan nuts. At Outeniqua Trout Lodge, we pride ourselves in participating in responsible sustainable tourism. The ever-changing mountains form the backdrop to this picturesque farm. It is a perfect retreat; a place where the "Absolute Peace" will restore weary souls, and the only sounds are bird songs and the cry of the Fish Eagle.
There is no television, telephone or mobile reception in our valley, perfect to enjoy the bright stars and silence of the farm. Remember, de Vlugt has no petrol, bank or credit card facilities, so fill up you tank and your wallet before you arrive. The lodge section of the farm is separate to the growing and farming area and is a secure peaceful environment. Guests are welcome to explore the farm on foot, or learn more about our responsible sustainable farming and how we generate our own electricity with hydro and solar power.
