About Thornleys Guest House

Thornleys is an upmarket guest house, situated in the historical town of Eshowe, in the heart of Zululand.
At 500 metres above sea-level and 25 kilometres from the Indian Ocean, Eshowe has arguably the best weather in Zululand.

Play golf at Eshowe Hills golf estate, go birding on the internationally renowned Zululand Birding Route or visit one of Zululand`s many attractions.

Eshowe is the perfect base camp from which to travel and experience the real Zululand. Thornleys Guest House has 5 en-suite bedrooms and offers comfortable and affordable accommodation.

A recent addition to Thornleys is the "Traveller`s Room", en-suite and with 4 single beds.
This room is more affordable than the others and is aimed at the budget oriented traveller or backpacker.

The private dining room offers the Thornleys Breakfast. Dinner can also be arranged on request.

Relax near the pool, or read a book on one of the verandas. A home away from home, relaxation Zululand Style!

The garden is lush and stretches into the magnificent Dlinza forest which makes for great birding, right on your doorstep.


A recent addition to Thornleys is the birding deck, 4 metres high and overlooking the Dlinza forest.
With coffee in hand, a wonderful way to go birding in early morning.

Accommodation Options

Room 1 - Ruby Room
Sumptuous in shades of pink, white and grey with touches of marble throughout. Rose gold wall sconces, ruby velvet couch, exquisite chandeliers, king-size bed and large bathroom with bath and separate shower.
Room 2 - Emerald Room
Feature wall of emerald green that's balanced perfectly with a metallic headboard of warm copper & gold. Glass & metal pendant sidelights, printed velvet scatters & white occasional chairs with a pop of coral. King-size or twin beds & large shower.
Room 3 - Sapphire Room
With the feature wall in this electrifying sapphire colour the end result is positively decadent. Handcrafted details of the white, cane, peacock headboard & pedestals are showcased to perfection. King-size bed & two single beds with large shower.
Room 5 - Travelers Room
Bright & cheerful with its own entrance and privacy. Natural textures, grass mats, light walls and a touch of yellow. Our largest room with a king-size bed, two single beds, dining table and bar fridge. Bathroom with shower
Room 4 - Gold Room
Dramatic dark walls showcase the sheen of the scalloped wicker headboard and ornate gold frames. Sophisticated opulence with antique gold velvet chairs, chandelier wall sconces & luxe fur throw. King-size bed, private entrance, veranda & shower.
