About Roodepoort Farm Self-Catering
Under angry cumulus clouds and ancient sandstone cliffs, we rear fine Angus cattle, grow beans, soya and maize on Roodepoort Farm. It is here where we have built, restored & renovated two warm and glad cottages flanking the original centarian sandstone farmhouse. Every Friday night there's a steady cloud of dust that leads to Roodepoort Farm from the metropolis, coolers in the back, exited kids on the backseat and eager folks wanting to kindle friendships and relationships.
You can have a lot of fun in a Jozi minute, but there are some things you can't do inside those city limits. And that is what we bring to you. You can come as you are as there ain't no dress code. Just some rural rules that you need to know:
• Don't mess with the bull as he can get real mean.
• Don't forget to shut the gate.
• Stay out of the beans.
• Respect all things great and small.
• Do not play with fire.
• Treasure the memories

Lara’s Homestead is the original Roodepoort House built in 1883. Originally a “Hartbeeshuisie”, this 'mas Provencal' was built in several stages over the past century and lovingly renovated in the winter of 2015. It is steeped with character & charm.
The house is an ideal family holiday home with 5 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, 2 lounges, dining room, farm style kitchen fully equipped for self-catering and features an AGA stove, electric stove, oven, kettle, fridge/freezer and microwave coffee plunger, cutlery and crockery for 12 people, pots & pans.
Outside there is a traditional BBQ lapa with built in bbq/braai, potjiekos stand and garden chairs.
The garden is perfectly safe for children with rolling lawns that featured various nail biting volleyball, cricket & soccer matches. The property is protected by a devils fork palisade.
Mila's Place
Mila’s Place was built against a mountainous backdrop in 2013 and features a spacious lounge/dining area, three bedrooms with 2 queen size beds and 2 Three-quarter beds and 2 bathrooms of which one is a large en-suite bathroom. As a special feature, the master bedroom offers a 180 degree view shower.
The kitchen is well-equipped for self-catering and features a stove, oven, kettle, fridge/freezer and microwave.(all you need is food & beverages) There is also a comfortable six-seater dining table and chairs in a spacious lounge/dining area. Outside BBQ facilities are available for those great fireside chats. It can sleep 6 people. All of the rooms have built-in cupboards. Bedrooms face North over the Ash-river valley while one bedroom and the bathrooms has mountain views.
Lexi's Quirky Cottage
Lexi’s Quirky Cottage is a romantic, cosy, thatched cottage and features a lovely thatched bedroom (a large en-suite bathroom with spectacular views) and a veranda for BBQ. This adorable cottage was built around a cliff edge bathtub overlooking the valley and the mountains. For the more adventurous there is an open-air shower.
The bedroom has large picture windows that allow you to wake up to some amazing mountain views. The front porch is a great place to eat breakfast or sit with a glass of wine in the evening and watch the sunset over the mountains. You can have a barbecue or light the fire and enjoy the stars and the call of jackals. This jewel is perfect for a romantic getaway or a peaceful place to enjoy the beauty of the great sandstone mountains. The kitchen is well-equipped for self-catering and features a mini-stove/oven, kettle, coffee plunger, fridge/freezer and microwave, gas braai & Weber. There is also a comfortable six-seater dining table and chairs. It can sleep 2 people.
If the need arise Nkandla Rondawel may be annexed with Lexi’s to accommodate a total of four people.
Nkandla Rondawel
Nkandla is our president’s envy. This Rondawel was not built with taxpayer money. It sleeps two, but does not offer self-catering (no kitchen). It has an almost open-air bathroom with Shower, basin & Toilet. Water is heated in a traditional "donkey" where you have to make a fire to heat up the water. It gives you that "hunting your own food" feeling. Nkandla can be annexed to Lara’s or Lexi’s should you need more beds. It has 2 ¾ beds, Tea tray, mini fridge & heater.
(NB: It is not available on its own as a standalone unit.)
