About Swartfontein Mountain Desert Guest Lodge
Swartfontein Mountain Desert Guest Lodge is situated within the Spreetshoogte Nature Reserve, about 180 km south-west of Windhoek, at the summit of the Spreetshoogte Pass that overlooks one of the most beautiful and majestic landscapes of Namibia.
Part of lodge buildings is a traditional settlers house, whose oldest part was build at the beginning of the 20th century by a German soldier. It has a distinctive colonial appearance, with its arched windows, green corrugated-iron roof, and wide veranda. Today it houses 4 Standard Rooms, which are also available as 2- and 4-roomed Self-catering Units, including a fully equipped kitchen and dining room.
Newer additions are 6 spacious Comfort Rooms en-suite, in a separate building, and a revamped Main Building accommodating reception, guest lounge and restaurant, as well as the kitchen and office.
The lodge's 10 guest rooms and main building surround a big court-yard on three sides that offers sprawling lawns, desert fauna, shade trees, a swimming pool and beautiful vistas of the Namibian bushveld environment, for you to enjoy and relax.
Children of all ages are welcome.
Vistas of the majestic Namib Desert, of the Gamsberg Plateau Mountain, and dramatically rugged mountain ranges of Namibia's Eastern Escarpment are as much highlights of this area, as are the large populations of wild African game, bird, and plant species.
Almost uninhabited, this area offers self-driving guests numerous options for full-day outings, e.g. a visit of Sossusvlei & Sesriem Canyon, a scenic roundtrip via the Spreetshoogte and Remhoogte Pass roads with a lunch-stop in Solitaire, and exploring the Ghaub & Kuiseb Canyons.
Most activities at Swartfontein Lodge center around experiencing the diverse wildlife and scenery of this Private Nature Reserve.
One such highlight is a Guided Sundowner Excursion that takes you to the edge of the escarpment, admiring the breathtaking vistas whilst sipping an ice-cold drink.
Another entails Guided Game Drives with many photographic opportunities.
Both guided excursions take place in an open 4×4 vehicle for up to 6 participants and last at least 2 hours.
For more adventurous guests, a day-hike in the wildest part of the nature reserve, in search of the protected and elusive mountain Zebra, can be arranged. Other self-guided outings on the large farmlands, on foot, by mountain bike, and by own 4x4 vehicle are available - just ask your hosts.
For those who are looking for a unique experience, a scenic flight from any of our private airstrips can be arranged, against prior booking, well in advance.
