About Gobabeb

The Gobabeb Research and Training Centre is an internationally recognized centre for dry land training and research in Southern Africa, operating through a joint venture between the Desert Research Foundation of Namibia (DRFN) and MET. It is located in Namibia in the Namib Desert, 120 km by road south-east of Walvis Bay, at the site of an abandoned Topnaar community called !Nomabeb, which means place of the figtree. Gobabeb operates as a research, training and education centre. Researchers from all over the world study subjects including desertification, water procurement, and the adaption of animals and plants to the desert environment. The new director arranged the building of several new accommodation units for visitors and concluded the building of the Community Resource Center at Gobabeb

Kuiseb campsite
Camping under a camel thorn acacia in the dry riverbed of the ephemeral Kuiseb – one of the best ways to experience nature in the Namib Desert. Rent a tent or set up your own in this river oasis between dunes and gravel plains; listen to the calls of owls and barking geckos as the sun goes down behind the Sand Sea. The Kuiseb camp offers a shared kitchen, a braai, and a wind-protected dining area for 40 persons. Showers and toilets are right at the camp site. - Rentable tents - Picnic tables and braai (up to 40 persons) - Shared kitchen (cooking utensils on request) - Sanitary facilities (shower, toilet)
Villa
Villas are the highest class of accommodation at Gobabeb and offer premium comfort for up to six persons. Situated close to the Kuiseb River, you have a great view of the Namib’s red sand dunes directly from your terrace. A dining room, a spacious living room as well as a large, fully equipped kitchen provide all you need for a pleasant stay in the Namib Desert. The villas feature three bedrooms with two single beds each.
