About Pakachere Backpackers Lodge
Pakachere Backpackers Lodge is located in the city of Zomba in southern Malawi. Accommodation options include two private en-suite rooms, one family room with shared facilities, two 4-bed dorms with fans, a 10-bed dorm with bunk beds, and ready-to-sleep tents with mattresses and linen.
Guests can enjoy a variety of local and international cuisines at the on-site restaurant. Other amenities offered are internet access and a bar. We have a fantastic garden to relax, camp or play.
We offer trips to Zomba and beyond. You can go for a hike on Zomba Plateau (1.5 to 8hrs) with our guide Isaac; cool down in Thutchila Pools at the foot of Mount Mulanje; watch cheetah, lions, elephants, hippos, antelope, buffalo, birds and many more wildlife at Liwonde National Park; visit the tea plantations and have high tea; explore the Chikala Pillars, Lake Chilwa and/or the Chilema Tree.
It is easy to spend several days in Zomba. The market is a pleasure to visit; no hassle and the variety of fruits & veg, car parts, chitenje (fabric), pots & pans, computer & phone chargers, backpacks and basically everything you need can be found on the market. Zomba has nice botanic gardens, lovely places for coffee, cake and lunch and a great cool climate. You are most welcome!

Accommodation Options
Family room
Private room with en-suite bathroom; the room has a double bed and a bunk bed. It sleeps 4 people for $55 per night (incl. VAT and tourism levy). Breakfast is not included, but can be bought at our restaurant from 7AM. Our pancake with fruit is one of the favourites. Our coffee comes from a local farm. We do have soy milk (if available in the country) and besides eggs & toast, we have gluten-free and vegan breakfasts available as well.
All rooms are sanitised after each guest. Blankets and pillows will be put in the sun and we aim to keep rooms empty for 72 hours between guests. Hand wash facilties and hand sanitiser are available on site.
Double room
Private room with double bed and en-suite bathroom. Price $40 per night for 2 people (incl. VAT and tourism levy). Breakfast is not included. We serve freshly prepared breakfast in the restaurant. If you want to leave early, please order the night before.

4-bed dorm
The 4-bed dorms have a fan, duvets and custom made mosquito nets. The bathroom is next door. Price is $12 per person per night (incl. VAT & tourism levy).
All rooms are sanitised after each guest. Blankets and pillows will be put in the sun and we aim to keep beds empty for 72 hours between guests. If possible, we try to not put more than 2 guests in a room, unless you are travelling in a group. We also try to avoid guests having to share bathrooms, but we cannot guarantee that. We provide a spray to sanitise the bathroom before/after using the facilities.
10-bed dorm
5 bunk beds in a big room with en-suite bathroom. Basic group accommodation with mosquito nets for $10 per person per night (incl. VAT & tourism levy).
This dorm is closed for now; we do not think many people want to share big room with strangers. However, if you travel with a group of 4+ people, we are happy to open it just for you!
Paka tent
Tent with mattresses, pillows and linen. Price $10 for 1 person or $16 for 2 people (incl. VAT & tourism levy). You can also bring your own tent for $7 per person per night.
After every guest, we put all mattresses and pillows outside in the sun and we try to keep the tents empty for at least 72 hours after every visit. We can imagine you feel safer taking your own sleeping bag (it does get cold at night from May till July), but we can assure we do everything we can to offer safe accommodation.
