Zambia South Luangwa & Victoria Falls

7 Days

Overview

This tour takes in two of Zambia’s most rewarding safari destinations, Victoria Falls and South Luangwa National Park. Explore the majesty of the world’s largest waterfall from the Zambia side, giving you access to Livingstone Island and the opportunity to swim in Devil’s Pool when water levels are low. Visit the bustling town of Livingstone and spend time at the close-up viewing points of the Falls, enjoying the sensation of spray on your face and the thunder in your ears.

After your Victoria Falls experience you’ll head to South Luangwa National Park, the birthplace of guided walking safaris and the best place in Africa to experience the thrill of walking through big game country. You’ll see some of Africa’s greatest creatures up close on your walks, as well as enjoy predator encounters on daily game drives through the South Luangwa Valley. Horseback riding is also available as an alternative safari activity.

Welcome to Victoria Falls, one of the seven natural wonders of the world, also known in the indigenous Lozi language as Mosi-oa-Tunya or 'the smoke that thunders.'

Your home for the next three nights is Chundukwa River Lodge, a tranquil retreat on the banks of the Zambezi River. The lodge is 15 miles from the colourful town of Livingstone, providing a perfect base from which to explore the bustling streets and local markets. it is far enough from the town’s bustling streets and markets. Chundukwa’s rooms are perched on stilts in a riverine forest and have private decks overlooking the Zambezi. The lodge prioritises its eco-friendly ambitions by using recycled wood, metal and sustainable reeds in its decor and furniture.

Chundukwa is the only lodge in the Livingstone region that offers a private guide and private vehicle for your visit to the Falls. You get to decide the when you'd like to go and how long to stay, freeing you up to explore the spectacular waterfall and surrounding attractions at your leisure. We highly recommend booking a a sunset boat cruise along the Zambezi or a horseback safari through the lush riverine forest. During the dry season between August and January when the waters are at their lowest, you can opt to swim in Devil's Pool, perched on the lip of the Falls and overlooking the cascading water. Adrenaline junkies can also get their fix by white water rafting down the Zambezi, which is known for having some of the best rapids in Africa.

After a final leisurely breakfast at Chundukwa, you'll take a short flight to South Luangwa National Park, Zambia’s top safari destination. South Luangwa is remote, wild and teeming with big game, including the big five.

Mfuwe Lodge is a peaceful retreat built under thatch and supported by palm tree poles. Private rooms have expansive lounges and sunny decks that overlook two lagoons where hippos trundle languidly by. There are dining and bar areas for you to relax in and a spacious pool to cool off from the intense African heat.

Enjoy morning game drives where you're likely to spot lions and leopard before stopping for a mid-morning snack and coffee. On late afternoon game drives you'll have the chance to see predators in action as they shake off the day's cobwebs and get ready for the night's hunt.

Undoubtedly the most exciting bit of your stay will be seeing the family of elephant that regularly wanders through the lodge reception area. Sit in the lobby and get goosebumps as these magnificent creatures march past you to reach the wild mango tree on the other side. They are very partial to the fruit and make frequent trips to snack on it. If you've ever dreamed of getting that perfect safari photo, this is your chance.

It's time to say farewell to your Zambian adventure and enjoy the memories and photos as you're transferred back to the airport for your return flight home.
