The Kingdom of Swaziland is a landlocked country in Southern Africa, bordered to the north, south and west by South Africa, and to the east by Mozambique, where the border is dominated by the Lebombo Mountains. It is a small country, just 200km in length and 130km in width, with mountainous regions to the west and a lowveld region to the east.
The nation and its people, are named after the 19th century king Mswati II. The population comprises primarily ethnic Swazis whose language is siSwati, with English as a second language.
Swaziland Highlights
History – Learn about the origins of the Swazi people from Bushman paintings at numerous sites around the Kingdom. Stop in at Ngwenya Mine – one of the oldest mines in the world – 42,000 years old!
Golf – For a small country, Swaziland has quite a nunber of golf clubs, golf courses and country clubs for the avid golfer who doesn’t want to miss out on his or her favourite recreational activity while visiting the tiny Kingdom.
Arts and Crafts – Visit the Ngwenya Glass Factory where you can watch glass blowers create beautiful pieces which you can buy at the on-site shop. Don’t miss the Swazi Candles Centre – the ideal place to buy gifts for those back home. The Swazi basket weavers are quite different to any other as well.
Casino – Swaziland is well known for one particular casino, Pigg’a Peak. If you enjoy the odd one on one with a one armed bandit, or a game of roulette, you might want to pop in at Pigg’s Peak.
Outfoor Adventure – from hiking in the mountains to white river rafting and adventure caving (Ezulwini), horse back riding and mountain biking, there is plenty for nature lovers to enjoy in Swaziland. Those who prefer more laid back activities can enjoy bird watching or trout fishing.

On the whole the climate is temperate although it can get very hot in summer, so plan accordingly.
NB: Parts of Swaziland are malaria areas so make sure you speak to your travel doctor well in advance so that you can take the required precautions.
Some travellers may need visas for entering Swaziland. Check with your own embassy ahead of time and make the neccessary arrangements.
