Mieliefontein Karoo Guest Farm and Wolmade Self-Catering Cottage are situated within the newly proclaimed Karoo Gariep Nature Reserve, home to the only hippos in the Northern Cape and a place of true beauty and tranquillity. An active sheep farm for three generations, owner PC and his family are dedicated to conservation and preserving the land so you can expect an authentic Karoo experience. Mieliefontein is set in lush, peaceful gardens, an unusual yet welcome contrast to the dry landscape beyond. The tasteful, en-suite rooms are simple yet homely and comfortable, with ceiling fans to break the heat of the day and electric blankets for those chilly winter nights. A tea tray ensures a cuppa is always available and is best enjoyed on the veranda overlooking the green lawns and swimming pool - a true oasis in this semi-desert. Scrumptious meals are provided by arrangement. Wolmade is a lovely self-catering cottage housed in the old homestead and offers a more affordable option. With five bedrooms and three bathrooms, the country décor helps to create a real “plaas huisie” (Farm house) feel and is a nod to the simple country living the homestead once stood for. Better suited to larger groups and for longer stays, the fully equipped kitchen makes self-catering stays hassle-free.
