Overview

Magnificently rebuilt with a unique underground waterhole hide, romantic Star Bed (coming soon), spa and exclusive private Villa, Suites and Chalets. Mhondoro, meaning ‘spirit of the lion’ in local Shona, is a luxurious safari experience in the malaria-free, Big Five wilderness of Welgevonden Game Reserve. Presiding over a waterhole and rich plains beyond, the family-friendly lodge combines exclusivity, privacy and space with African chic and contemporary design.  The unique underground waterhole hide offers thrilling eye-to-eye game viewing amongst wildlife at the waters edge, connected by a 65m tunnel to the lodge. Adventurous romantics can soon enjoy an unforgettable night beneath African skies on the secluded, elevated Star Bed. Equally romantic is the private Honeymoon Chalet, with plunge pool and day bed on the deck, al fresco shower and a fireplace. Families and small groups will enjoy the Family or Executive Suite, or indulge in the ultimate exclusivity of the Villa, with its own private pool, gym, yoga room, personal ranger and vehicle, private chef and butler.  Rangers share the wonders of the wilderness on game drives and bush walks through the savannah and diverse habitats of this Waterberg region. In between safaris, game viewing and bird watching, there is a range of pursuits to indulge in – a bracing workout in the gym, massages and treatments in the spa, heated swimming pool and sauna, and fabulous food. The Honeymoon Suite offers a perfect romantic getaway. Accommodating a couple in luxury, the intimate building boasts a spacious bedroom with an en-suite bathroom. Its uniqueness is in its private viewing deck and its own spa pool and daybed overlooking the reserve. It is located furthest away from the Lodge, providing a very secluded and private feel while making it the perfect spot to raise a glass of champagne and enjoy the uninterrupted view of the wilderness and animals, or to watch the stars at night.

The exclusivity of the Mhondoro Villa means that all meals and selected local drinks are included, and it comes with its own private pool, a private gym, spa and yoga room, as well as a private game viewing vehicle with ranger, a private chef, a private butler and housekeeping staff. The Mhondoro Villa is booked at a fixed price for one to four guests. Additional guests are charged per the specified surcharge per season. The Mhondoro Villa boasts a magnificent master suite and two additional bedrooms, all with en-suite bathrooms. To accommodate a bigger group, the adjacent Family Suite may also be booked with the villa, accommodating two adults and two children, to dine up to 10 guests in the Villa.
