Uganda Primates

About Uganda Primates

Uganda is alive with monkeys, well primates really and many of them are habituated to human visitors. The star attraction is the endangered mountain gorilla and there are five habituated troops which can be visited on foot, with the added advantage that they live in the most amazing rain forests.

Habituated chimpanzee communities can be found at Kibale Forest, Budongo Forest, Queen Elizabeth National Park’s Kyambura Gorge and the Ngamba Island Sanctuary where rescued chimps live safely on the island in Lake Victoria.

It’s not just about the the big guys, the Kibale Forest boasts the greatest primate variety and density in East Africa, Mgahinga National Park has habituated troops of the rare golden monkey and Murchison Falls is home to the plains-dwelling patas monkey.
