Electricity
In Mauritius, the power plugs and sockets are of type C and G. The standard voltage is 230 V, and the standard frequency is 50 Hz. You can use your electric appliances in Mauritius if the standard voltage in your country is between 220 - 240 V. If the standard voltage in your country is in the range of 100 V - 127 V, you need a voltage converter in Mauritius. You can also consider a combined power plug adapter/voltage converter.

Mauritius is GMT + 4 (3 hours ahead of continental Europe)

Tipping
Tipping of hotel personnel is not mandatory, but a demonstration of your appreciation for good service is welcomed. Personnel who are deserving of tips are porters, room cleaners and waiters in bars and restaurants who have been particularly helpful. Tipping of transport personnel is also appreciated and drivers of transfer vehicles, tour coach drivers and guides are deserving of recognition. Tipping should be in local currency. 10% is usual in most hotels and restaurants.

Bugs
With Mauritius being located in the tropics, you may encounter the local wildlife (insects, reptiles, small mammals, rodents, cockroaches) in the resorts. This in no way means the resorts are unclean. It is just a way of life in tropical destinations. Mosquitoes are easily dealt with if you use mosquito repellent which you will need to take with you. We recommend that you put the air-conditioning on in your room before you go to dinner to deter any other wildlife from entering your room before you retire to bed. Mobile Phones
If you are intending to use your phone in Mauritius, please ensure you have international roaming installed. Roaming agreements with international mobile phone companies are available, and coverage extends over the entire island. Local mobile calls are the same as the price of landline calls, so it’s worth buying a local SIM card for your handset if you plan to make more than a few phone calls on the island.

Security
Please ensure that your passport, air tickets and traveller's cheques are securely stored in your room safe. Do not leave jewellery, mobile phones, cameras or any other valuables in your room or in public areas.
