Welcome to Palapye
Situated on the main A1 highway from Gaborone - Francistown, Palapye benefits a lot from passing trade. Originally established around the railway, Palapye was further developed after the discovery of coal and the subsequent construction of two power stations, which can be seen as you approach the town.
The village itself has expanded rapidly in the last few years and the construction of the University will further help to boost the local economy. Few tourists actually go into the centre of Palapye as the Junction Shopping Mall and surrounding shops have everything you need.
Although most tourists just pass through Palapye, the Tswapong Hills are worth spending time at and are easily reached – both Moremi Gorge and Old Palapye are within an hours drive.
